Home The Mount Helena Tavern and Restaurant There is a quaint tavern that sits alongside the historic Kep Track in Mount Helena. Nestled in the centre of the township, this 100-year-old taven and restaurant overlooks a large, family friendly beer garden. Whether you are dining or just having a few quiet ales you are sure to have a relaxing time.The restaurant has old world charm, a menu that will tickle your taste buds with a specials board changing all the time and a wine list that boasts quality wines.This all makes for a perfect setting to enjoy those special occassions such as weddings, birthdays or anniversaries.We offer live music four nights a week, including open mic on Wednesday. Bring a musical instrument to join in or just enjoy the fun. Enjoy a relaxing Sunday session in our beer garden listening to live music while the kids are entertained on the bouncy castle, or in winter sit in the cosy fireside glow with friends and enjoy our scrumptious menu.Join the herd with Mt Helena Tavern's 'Moo and Brew' $20 special on Mondays, which includes a T-bone steak and middy of beer, glass of wine or a soft drink. On Tuesday, try the $20 'Parma and Pint' with a huge choice of different toppings. Great value $6 pints every Wednesday & Thursday, with $10 bar special meals every day during lunch service. Enjoy a freshly made curry on Thursday for $18 - three to choose from. Come and feast on Billy's "All You Can Eat" Buffet Breakfast on Sunday morning from 9am - 11.30am for the price of $25 per adult. Kids are free!** Sunday is $12 jugs with all tap beer at this price. Kids eat free* everyday from 12pm - 2pm making the family outing more affordable.Lots of country hospitality, always a friendly smile and great service. Some History

A Small Piece of Our History

The original building was constructed by E D Forsyth in partnership with local mill owner Robert Hummerston. A Midland architect designed the weatherboard building which included French doors that opened on to the verandah areas. Some of the original windows remain.

Local builders John Alps and Tom Tomkinson erected the hotel which was completed in September 1902. Forsyth was the original licensee but the hotel was bought shortly after completion by Perth publican Fred Foweracre who ran the business for several years before leasing the hotel to R A Carmicheal and then Charles Slee. There have been many other licensees since then including former Shire Councillor Des Coyne.

Whippet racing was a popular form of recreation opposite the hotel in the 1020's. The current carpark was also used as a cricket pitch and the Tavern was one of the few places to lodge. The train line used to run along the rear of the Tavern until the 1970's and is now the community Bridal Trail.

The current owners, Danny & Anne Lynch, started their renovations in 2007 and continue to improve the building and it's facilities.

Functions

Mount Helena Tavern and Restaurant has three areas for private functions.The beer garden is used for informal gatherings where catering is available for barbecues or spit roasts, with or without a band.The Lounge Bar is for less formal functions where guests have a choice of the buffet menu or standing platters and drinks, also with a band playing. At the restaurant, diners are catered for with a more intimate experience where they have a choice of the buffet or table service set menu.The restaurant and lounge can be combined for larger functions that may include the beer garden and the lounge. Both provide areas for bands and dance floors.A variety of set menus are available to choose from and the head chef and his team will put together a menu for a special occasion. The team will also cater for vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free food.The restaurant will hold a maximum of 40 people, as will the lounge. Two hundred people can fit in the beer garden.
